EST to FJT Converter: key details
Fiji Time (FJT, UTC+12) sits 17 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST, UTC−5). For 238 days of the year, that gap collapses to 16 hours. The reason is simple: New York moves its clocks, Fiji does not.
Why the gap shrinks from 17 to 16 hours
EST is fixed at UTC−5. FJT is fixed at UTC+12. The arithmetic offset never changes: 17 hours. But the offset that matters for a phone call is place-to-place, not abbreviation-to-abbreviation. From 8 March to 31 October 2026, New York runs on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, UTC−4). Fiji stays put. The result: 16 hours ahead for 238 days. On 1 November 2026, New York falls back to EST and the 17‑hour spread returns.
Converting Eastern Time to FJT
Check the date first.
Between early November and mid‑March, add 17 hours. Between mid‑March and early November, add 16 hours. Everything else follows from that.
Add the offset.
9:00 AM EST → 2:00 AM FJT (two calendar days later).
9:00 AM EDT → 1:00 AM FJT (two calendar days later).
Watch the calendar date.
The offset always crosses midnight. Late Monday evening in New York is already early Wednesday morning in Fiji. Missing the date change is how deadlines get blown.
Forget about overlap.
A standard 9:00-17:00 working day never overlaps when the gap is 16 or 17 hours. One side is always asleep. The practical move: let the person in Fiji pick the time, usually very early their morning, which lands in late afternoon Eastern.
The 2026 and 2027 calendar

The “EST” label trap
EST means UTC−5. It does not mean “whatever time New York is on right now.” From March to November, New York is on EDT. A clock displaying “EST” in July is wrong about the label even if the hour is correct. When you see “EST” in a calendar invite for August, mentally translate it to EDT before you convert to FJT.
